Intro

Merits+ is a hospital-based platform that allows patients to leave feedback after their visit, enabling administrators to monitor staff performance. Additionally, staff members can appreciate each other through an internal system, earn points that can be redeemed later, and engage with a live feed displaying all appreciation within the hospital.

The Problem

Lack of Performance Tracking: Hospitals often struggle to track individual staff performance based on patient feedback, leading to gaps in quality improvement.

  • Limited Staff Recognition: Internal staff appreciation systems are often absent or fragmented, which affects morale and teamwork.

  • No Reward Mechanism: There’s often no incentive for staff to acknowledge or appreciate one another’s efforts, which can limit internal motivation.

  • Disconnected Feedback Channels: Both patient reviews and internal staff appreciation aren't usually centralized, making it difficult for administrators to get a comprehensive view.

Approach

I designed Merites to create an integrated system for both patient reviews and internal staff appreciation:

  • Patient Review System: Developed a user-friendly interface where visiting patients can leave reviews and rate the staff they interacted with after their visit. This feedback goes directly to hospital administrators.

  • Staff Appreciation Feature: Built an internal appreciation system where staff can acknowledge each other's efforts. Each appreciation adds points to the receiving staff member’s account, which can be redeemed for rewards.

  • Real-Time Appreciation Feed: Implemented a live feed visible to all staff members, showcasing real-time appreciation to encourage positive reinforcement and recognition.

  • Points & Rewards System: Created a redeemable points system, where staff members can collect points based on the appreciation they receive and later exchange them for rewards.

Results

Improved Performance Tracking: Hospital administrators now have a continuous stream of feedback from patients, helping to monitor staff performance and improve patient care.

  • Boost in Staff Morale: The internal appreciation system has fostered a more positive work environment, with staff feeling recognized for their efforts.

  • Engagement Through Rewards: The points system has motivated staff to engage with one another and recognize good work, with the added incentive of redeemable rewards.

  • Visibility of Positive Culture: The live appreciation feed has created transparency and increased staff interaction, promoting a culture of positivity within the hospital.
